Boris' climb down over EU "gag" for senior staff "the quickest U-turn in history" - Len Duvall AM

Responding to Boris Johnson’s withdrawal of memo to senior staff instructing them to back him over the EU referendum, Leader of the London Assembly Labour Group, Len Duvall AM, said:

"Despite possibly the quickest U-turn in history, the fact Boris Johnson tried to gag his advisers suggests even his own team know that London is better off inside the EU.

"For the Mayor to effectively resort to threatening his staff shows how panicked he is, there are clearly deep splits even within his own team.

"This is total double standards from the Mayor who complains about David Cameron stifling debate and then tries to do exactly the same thing himself. Despite this climb down the bullying message he has sent to his advisers is clear, back the Mayor or face the consequences."
