Boris Johnson refuses to cooperate with Royal Albert Docks investigation

Responding to a letter from the Mayor of London Boris Johnson dismissing an independent investigation into the Royal Albert Docks development and stating he would not be attending GLA committee scrutiny sessions on the subject, London Assembly Labour Group Leader Len Duvall AM said:

“It is totally outrageous that the Mayor is refusing to be held accountable for his decisions on the Royal Albert Dock. He was the one who signed off the deal, yet he thinks it’s alright to refuse to answer questions on the subject.

“Londoners need to know that Boris’ big international deals are getting best value for the capital. The Mayor’s refusal to open up the process to proper scrutiny will just fuel concerns about this development, as it stands the way this deal was done is as transparent as mud.

“The Mayor cannot hide behind his hastily prepared audit report. Not only does it fail to deal with some major questions but the report itself accepts it was only a ‘desk top review’ that did not interview some key players involved. If the public are to have any faith in big development deals like this, the Mayor is going to have to accept the need for transparency. That is why we desperately need an independent investigation to remove the politics from this and get to the bottom of the legitimate questions raised about the deal.”
