Dr Onkar Sahota is Chair of the Health Committee, and is a member of the Economy and Transport Committees. He first arrived in Hayes in 1961 with his family. He graduated in 1983 from Sheffield University Medical School and then returned to London to begin his medical career.
Onkar has been a GP since 1989 and in 1994 he established his own practice. Through hard work and investment, the practice now provides healthcare to some 12,000 NHS patients in Hanwell and Southall.
Having become successful in his profession, Onkar’s experiences have taught him that this country works best when we provide opportunities for people to succeed. He believes that we need to ensure that we look after those who need a helping hand to make their way and succeed in life. That’s why Onkar stood to become a member of the London Assembly, being successfully elected in May 2012 as the Member for Ealing and Hillingdon.
