Funding formula change and police cuts could be "devastating" for London - Joanne McCartney AM

Commenting on the letter from Police Commissioners and the Deputy Mayor for Policing’s letter to the Policing Minister on the police funding formula changes, Labour’s London Assembly Policing Spokesperson, Joanne McCartney AM said:

“For months the Boris Johnson has buried his head in the sand about the grave impact the Home Secretary’s funding formula changes and police grant cuts will have on the Met. I’m glad we are starting to see signs that the Mayor has woken up to the need to fight the £1bn in cuts which the Government seems intent to force upon London’s police.

“There can be no doubt that unless the Government rolls back on the scale of cuts, London’s police force will look very different in the future. With crime already on the increase and the Commissioner warning that up to 8,000 officers could be lost, it’s time for the Home Secretary to heed the warning signs and understand the true price of cuts to the police could be devastating.”
