London rents jumped 4.1% in the last year ONS stats reveal

Commenting on ONS housing statistics released today showing London private sector rents rose 4.1% in the year to September, Labour’s London Assembly Housing Spokesperson Tom Copley AM said:

“Once again we have seen rents rises far outstripping wage growth, making it even harder for families in the capital to make ends meet.

“Whilst average London rents have risen 4.1% in the last year, many people will have seen far higher increases with little or no warning. Without safeguards to properly protect tenants from rapid rent rises many people will increasingly struggle to afford the rocketing cost of renting in London.”
