Mayor's "abject failure to stay focused" on Tube upgrade will leave paying passengers "with yet another five years of over-stretched services"

Responding to the announcement that upgrade work on the Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines will be delayed by five years, Labour’s London Assembly Transport Spokesperson, Val Shawcross AM said:

“With rush hour tubes bursting at the seams, and commuters struggling to get into work every day on overcrowded services, upgrading the tube is undoubtedly the single most important transport project in London.

“After eight years, the Mayor has failed to complete what is not only the most cost efficient upgrade to the London Underground, but the most beneficial to commuters and London’s economy.  The tube upgrade should have topped the Mayor’s list of priorities, but his abject failure to stay focused now means that paying passengers will be left to contend with yet another five years of over-stretched services.”
