Responding to today’s new NHS statistics showing only three London NHS trusts met A&E waiting time targets last week, London Assembly Labour Health Spokesperson Dr Onkar Sahota AM said:
“Today’s figures confirm that the NHS is teetering on the edge. Without doubt lives are being put at risk as patients wait longer for ambulances and medical treatment, and operations are cancelled.
“Too many years of unnecessary reorganisation and health service cuts are now coming to a head. The crisis we’ve seen in A&E this winter is threatening to spread to the rest of the NHS. The Government’s lip service will no longer wash, immediate action is needed to stop this crisis growing any worse. Without decisive action the chaos we saw over Christmas risks becoming a permanent fixture.”
