Val Shawcross AM welcomes £75m step-free fund

Commenting on Transport for London’s announcement of a £75m fund to speed up work to make the transport network more accessible to disabled passengers, London Assembly Labour Group Transport Spokesperson, Val Shawcross AM, said:

“I am delighted that TfL are finally getting round to setting up this fund. I first proposed setting up such a fund earlier this year as part of the debate on the Mayor’s transport budget yet it’s taken until now for us to see action.

“The Mayor seems to be following my proposals closely as yesterday he also announced plans to make all London Crossrail stations step-free as I had called for. Unfortunately this leaves three stations outside London inaccessible to those with access needs, I would urge the Mayor to lobby hard for the Government to also make these remaining stations accessible step free to ensure that all the Crossrail route is fully fit for the 21st Century.”
